Carolyn Jean Burnside

June 5, 1938 - January 18, 2020

Carolyn Jean Burnside, 81 of Salem departed this life on Saturday, January 18, 2020, in Genesis Health Care Center, Salem, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on June 5, 1938 in Salem a daughter of the late Allen D. and Pauline Mason Rush.  On January 28, 1956, she married Edwin Earl Burnside who preceded her in death on June 30,1997.   Surviving are two daughters, Teresa Shriver and husband Donald, Salem, Debra Yeomans and husband Danny, Madison, two sons, Edwin A. Burnside, Stonewood, Michael Burnside and wife Heather, Clarksburg, grandchildren, Jason Burnside and wife Kayla, Lumberport, Kerri Burnside and fiancé, Jon Morehouse, Bridgeport, Matthew Shriver and companion, Kaitlyn Dyer, Bridgeport, Ciara Carder and fiancé Drew Chambers, Madison, Christian Burnside, Clarksburg, great grandson, Colten Chambers and two expected great granddaughters this spring.   Mrs. Burnside was a 1956 graduate of Salem High School, and a former employee of the W.V. Industrial Home for Girls where she served as a Matron and was a substitute cook for the Harrison County Board of Education.  Mrs. Burnside was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family.  She enjoyed cooking, canning, and quilting.  Carolyn was a member of the Open Door Tabernacle.    Funeral services will be conducted in the Harbert Funeral Home, 287 W. Main St,. Salem on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Denver Burnside and Dr. Donald Shriver presiding.  Interment will follow in the K of P Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Monday from 3-8 p.m.  Harbert Funeral Home is privileged to serve the Burnside family.
