James David Fox, 66 of Lost Creek passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, March 19, 2018. He was born at Hinton on March 24, 1951 a son of the late David M. and Edna P. Patty Bennett Fox. He was the son-in-law of Virginia Merritt, Morgans Run and the late Hayward Merritt and the grandson of the late Manuel and Laura Atwell Fox and the late Franklin J. and E. Blanche Farley Bennett. On October 9, 1971 he married the love of his life Cathy Sue Merritt Fox who survives. Also surviving are one son, James D. Fox and companion Carmen, Escondido, CA, one daughter, Melissa Dawn Fox, Clarksburg, grandchildren, Jessica Coffman, Ashley Snider, Morgan Trotter and Julian Fox, great grandson, Dawson Coffman, sisters, Debra Leeson and husband Bub, West Union, Darlene Smithson and husband Carl, Glenville, Denise Byrd and husband Robert, New London, NC, Kristi Sanders, Lexington, NC, brothers, Jerry Fox and wife Suzanne, Grantsville, Darrick Fox and wife Mary, Hinton, Jon Fox and wife Brenda, Parkersburg, two sisters-in-law, Vickie Isner and husband Mike, Parkersburg, Mary Merritt, West Union, several nieces and nephews including two very special nieces who were always there whenever anything was needed, Lisa and Kasey Hayhurst. Two nieces, Michelle Wilfong and Carla Renee Smithson preceded him in death. Jim was employed by Vecellio-Grogan as a steel worker, working in road construction for over 30 years. He enjoyed teaching his K-9 friends, Lucy and Mollie tricks, going to yard sales, collecting guns and knives. Jim was always showing people a trick or a magic trick, he had learned and was able to make a yo yo do anything. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend and will be sadly missed by his family and friends. At his request he was cremated. A service of remembrance will be held at the convenience of the family. Harbert Funeral Home is privileged to serve the Fox family.
