Jimmie "Big Daddy" Nicholson

Jimmie "Big Daddy" Nicholson, 83, of Buckeye Run Rd., Salem departed this life on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 in the United Hospital Center, Bridgeport. He was born at Buckeye, a son of the late Millard and Ruby Snider Nicholson. On June 18, 1961 he married Barbara Starkey Nicholson who survives. Also surviving is one son, Derrick Nicholson and wife, Constance, Salem; four grandchildren, Cam and Maelynn Nicholson, Gary Titus II and Megan Jones; one sister, DeLeah Ash, Salem; nephews, Jeff Ash (Merly), Mike McConnell, Greg McConnell (Regina) and Tim McConnell, (Sam); nieces, Tammy Gregory, Drema Harvey (Dave), Marla James (Jeff), Katina Peters (Mark), Lisa McConnell and Crystal Ross; and several great nieces and nephews. The family would like to acknowledge his best friend and lifelong employee, Randy Evans. Mr. Nicholson had owned and operated Nicholson Auto & Towing for over 50 years and was retired from the Doddridge County Board of Education as a School Bus Driver for 27 years. He served in the National Guard for six years. Jimmie was an avid drag car racer and was inducted into Eldora Racing Hall of Fame 2014 and WV Drag Racers' Hall of Fame 2019. He won several WV State Championships in Drag Racing at Eldora Raceway. Jimmie had owned the Tyler County Speedway 1982-1983. Jim attended Victory Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle and enjoyed spending time with his family. The family would like to gratefully acknowledge Rolland Knicely, Raymond Shaffer (Jackie), Linda McKinney, Rachael Baker, 6th floor Nursing Station, UHC, Pastor Denver Burnside, Pastor Bob Metz, the staff of Harbert Funeral Home, Tim Holtz and Staff. We are thankful for all of your prayers and support during this season of our lives; may God bless all of you. Funeral services will be conducted in the Harbert Funeral Home, 287 W. Main St., Salem on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Denver Burnside and Pastor Bob Metz presiding. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum, Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Quiet Dell. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Friday, February 25, 2022 from 2-8 p.m. and after 9 a.m. on Saturday until time of service.
