Lester Henry Stinebiser

July 23, 1925 - June 19, 2019

Lester Henry Stinebiser, 93  of Salem departed this life on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at his residence.  He was born on July 23, 1925 in Jeannette, PA a son of the late Lester and Elizabeth Dauds Stinebiser.  He was preceded in death by his wife Edna Jean Hutson Stinebiser on October 1, 2016.   Surviving is one step son, Larry Scott, Salem, one grandson, Jason Scott, one great grandson, Hunter Scott, several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by one brother, Bobby Stinebiser, two sisters, Betty McElvain and Mary Lou Martina, one grandson, Brian Scott.   Lester graduated from Jeannette High School in 1942.  He joined the Army Air Force, WWII in June 1943.  He was trained as a gunner in Mississippi and Texas, crew training in Walla, WA.  Lester was assigned to 491st Bomb group, 854th Squadron and flew in the B-24 Liberator as nose gunner. He flew 18 missions and was discharged December 15, 1945.  He attended Pittsburgh Academy for one year then transferred to Salem College where he received his BA degree and played football for three years.  In 1949 he joined the National Guard, 1092nd Combat Engineers and was called up for Active Duty in the Korean Conflict.  Lester was a retired school teacher in Logan and Harrison County for 42 years. He obtained his Master's Degree from Marshall University and attended Seminary School in Washington, D.C . and became a local pastor in 1990.  He had served as a Sunday School Teacher,Sunday School Superintendant and attended Salem United Methodist Church.   At his request he was cremated and there will be no services. Harbert Funeral Home is privileged to serve the Stinebiser family.
